Methodology

Plain English, no jargon. This page explains what RaceReady measures, how it is published, and just as importantly, what it does not claim.

RaceReady independent racing research. Not financial or wagering advice.

What RaceReady is

RaceReady is an independent racing research project. It studies whether a structured, repeatable assessment of a race can identify the runners best suited to the conditions. It is published so the record can be checked by anyone.

RaceReady is not a tipping service, does not sell selections, does not accept sponsorship from wagering operators and gives no financial or wagering advice.

What is measured

Each runner is assessed on recent form, suitability to the distance and track conditions, barrier and likely run position, weight, gear changes and how the market has formed. Those components combine into a single comparative research rating presented out of 100.

The rating is comparative within a single race only. A rating of 82 at one meeting is not directly comparable to an 82 somewhere else.

Confidence and suitability

Confidence describes how clearly the research separates the top runner from the rest of the field. Suitability describes how well the top-rated runner's profile matches the actual conditions of the race. Both are properties of the research, not predictions of an outcome.

What a Green Race means

A Green Race is a race where the completed research reached the highest confidence tier. It marks the races where the method believes it has the clearest read. It is a research classification, not a recommendation to bet, and Green Races are reported separately in the performance figures so they can be judged on their own record.

Publication and freezing

Research is frozen and timestamped before the race is run. The published record is never rewritten afterwards. Verified results are added alongside the frozen research, always visually separated from it, so pre-race and post-race information can never be confused.

How evidence quality is graded

Not every race has equally complete source information. Each published record carries an evidence label so readers can weigh it appropriately.

Complete
Every input RaceReady needs was recorded before the race, and the official result has been confirmed afterwards.
Adequate
Enough information was recorded before the race to publish research, and the official result has been confirmed.
Limited
Some supporting information was missing or incomplete. The research is published unchanged, but it carries less supporting evidence than usual.
Result pending
The research is frozen and published, but the official result has not been confirmed yet.

Known limitations

  • Sample sizes are still modest; short-run percentages move sharply and should be read with care.
  • Late scratchings, gear changes and track condition changes after the freeze are not retrofitted.
  • Source data quality varies by track and meeting, which is why evidence labels are published.
  • Some segments are shown for transparency even when the sample is too small to be reliable.

Corrections

If a published record is found to be wrong, the original is not deleted or silently edited. A dated correction notice is added to that race, and where the error affects measurement, the race is excluded from the public statistics and reported in the excluded count.

Responsible use

Racing involves risk and most participants lose money over time. Nothing published here should be treated as advice to wager. If gambling is causing harm, free confidential support is available in Australia on 1800 858 858 or at gamblinghelponline.org.au.
